John “Jack” William Webster, Sr. passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, May 15, at White Oak Estates.
He was predeceased by both parents, Francis and Martha Webster, his wife, Maria Webster, and his brother, Francis Webster, Jr. He is survived by his elder son, John William “Bill” Webster, Jr., his wife, Patti, and their son, Jesse; his younger son, Robert Pearse Webster, and his wife, Laura; and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was born August 4, 1923 in Charlotte, NC. His family moved to Greenville, SC when he was very young. He graduated from Greenville High School and attended Furman College for two years. Then, he enlisted in the United State Navy, where he became a pilot of a B24 bomber during WWII, flying in the VP-114 Squadron and was honorably discharged at the end of the war. After leaving the Navy, he attended Clemson University and graduated with a degree in Textile Management.
Shortly before graduating, he married his long-time girlfriend, Maria Harrison. The two shared a wonderful marriage until Maria’s death in 2010. Upon graduating from Clemson, he was hired by Milliken, working in Textile Management and Research and Development until he retired.
He was of the presbyterian faith and served as a Deacon and Elder at various churches including Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he was a long-time member. Jack was an avid Master Gardener and volunteered with Mobile Meals and Spartanburg Shares.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the family cemetery, 310-A S. Harrison Bridge Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.
