Jonathan Charles Waters, son of Jack and Cyndi Waters, died peacefully on Friday, September 24, 2021. Jonathan was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on June 23, 1984. In the sixth grade, Jonathan received the White Star Award in Upward Basketball. He graduated from Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union, Virginia where he lettered in lacrosse, soccer, and indoor soccer. He received his two-year business degree from Spartanburg Community College and before his illness, worked at TD Bank in Greenville. He loved animals, sports, reading, music, and video games. Although he was not the most patient person in the world, Jonathan had a kind heart and was quick to give his Mom and Dad a hug and say “I love you” even through the terrible teenage years. In addition to his parents, Jonathan is survived by his sister, Jennifer Waters of Spartanburg, SC; niece, Abby Mason of Orlando, FL; niece, Chloe Smith of Spartanburg, SC; grandmother, Doris Conner of Ladson, SC; and aunt, Carol Jones (Bob) of North Charleston, SC. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents L. S. and Rachel Waters; his maternal grandfather, William Conner; uncle, Jesse “Buster” Dukes; and his beloved rescue lab mix, George. The family would like to thank the doctors at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center: Terrence Day, MD, Evan Graboyes, MD, Ashli Karin O’Rourke, MD and their nurses and staff for the kind and professional care given to our son. We are also grateful for his speech pathologist, Alissa Yeargin of Greenville ENT. Please make donations in Jonathan’s memory to Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas, 900 S. Pine St., Suite F, Spartanburg, SC 29302; Animal Allies Spartanburg, 800 Gossett Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307 or the charity of one’s choice.
