Joseph Clayton "Clay" Jenkins

December 23, 1984 — July 15, 2022

Joseph C. “Clay” Jenkins

Greer, SC- Joseph Clayton Jenkins, 37, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022.

Born December 23, 1984 in Spartanburg, SC, Clay was a son of the Sylvia Leone Brinson Gantt and the late James Michael Jenkins.

Clay was a 2003 graduate of Dorman High School. He lettered in Baseball all 4 years, which resulted in a baseball scholarship to University of Louisville in Kentucky. Due to a number of injuries, he had to give up playing the sport he so loved. The following year he transferred to Clemson University to obtain his BA in Business Administration. He was also a very talented guitar player, thanks to taking lessons from Joe Bennett (Joe Bennett and the Sparkletones). Listening to Clay play the guitar would always give his Mother "goosebumps". He was just so smart, loving, caring and giving. His love for his family was at the top of his list. Many who thought they knew who he was, really had no clue. He will be missed here on Earth, but will forever live on in many hearts.

In addition to his mother, Clay is survived by his stepfather, Mike Gantt; brothers, Andy Jenkins of Moore, SC and Matt Jenkins of Lawrenceville, GA; stepbrothers, Dewayne and Joey Gantt, both of Spartanburg, SC; uncles, Blain Brinson and his wife, Caren, and G. R. Tarr, all of Florida; an aunt, Melissa Tarr of Florida; cousins, Dan and Jay Brinson; and a nephew, Jadyn Jenkins.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 22nd, 2:00PM at First Presbyterian Church in the Chapel, officiated by The Reverend L. Craig Foster. The family will receive friends immediately following in the Perrin Room.

In remembrance of Clay, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals, P O Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
