Joseph “Joe” Sandolo Moore, SC- Joseph Sandolo, 89, husband of Sylvia Mazzella Sandolo, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. Joe was born to Antonio and Assunta Sandolo of Ponza Italy. He and his family immigrated to New York on December 24, 1935. He lived in Bronx, New York where he went to school and later married his bride of 61 years, Sylvia. He and his family moved to Long Island, NY where he later retired as a postal letter carrier. In 1972, his family moved to Florida to begin a second career of owning a restaurant and bakery. In 1984, he was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa. He didn’t allow his blindness to stop his work ethic and worked for the Division of Blind Services for 23 years. When he retired, Joe enjoyed his favorite pastime of watching his beloved Yankees play baseball and fishing for the “big reds” along the Florida waterways. His friends and family were always amazed at his fishing skills without having any vision. In 2010, he moved to SC to be closer to his daughter. In addition to his wife, Sylvia, Joe is survived by his son, Michael Sandolo and his wife, Sheila, of Gilbert, AZ; his daughter, Suzanne Page and her husband, Ken, of Spartanburg, SC; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Hugo Sandolo of New York; and a sister, Florence Glaser of AZ. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Frank Sandolo; sisters, Anna Bassani and Maria Feola; a granddaughter, Meghan Sandolo; a grandson, Joel Adams; and son in-law, Reverend Don Adams. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills for the loving care they provided Joe. The family will be at the home of his daughter Suzanne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 26th, 3PM at Jesus Our Risen Savior Catholic Church. The family will receive friends Friday, May 26th, from 6-8PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. A Celebration of his life will be held Saturday, May 27th, 3PM at Dunbar Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend Sal Barone. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
