Spartanburg, SC- Joshua Ryan Shackley, 38, slipped out of this world to be with his Savior on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born August 11, 1978 in Fort Wayne, IN, Joshua was a son of Daniel Beery and Linda Gail Jones Shackley. He was employed with Spartanburg Downtown Airport for over 14 years and aviation was his first love. As a private pilot, his passion was flying and his dream was to become a commercial pilot. He played several instruments, including the bass guitar in a band with his brother, Tyson, for a while. Joshua enjoyed singing in the choir at his church and he loved God and would tell anyone willing to listen about his Savior. In addition to his loving parents, Joshua is survived by his brother, Eric A. Shackley (Angel Radford); his “extra” brothers, Allen Gill, Michael “Spanky” Sims, and Brad Alberson, with whom he shared a special bond and are considered family. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Brittney S. Johnson (Cody), Noah, Sarah, Abby, and Eric D. Shackley, Trent Bowers, Isaac and Jake Sloan; and many many loving friends. Joshua was predeceased by his brothers, Benjamin in 2008 and R. Tyson in 2015. The family will receive friends Friday, April 28th, 6-8PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. A celebration of Josh’s life will be held Saturday, April 29th, 2PM at St. James United Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend Wayne Smith, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James UMC to a special music fund in Josh’s memory, 213 N.
