Julia Young, “Mimi”, passed on peacefully at her home, Holli Hill, on March 3, 2025—three days after her 94th birthday. She was surrounded by her five children and their spouses, who held her hands until she took the hands of Jesus.
Born in Stanford, Kentucky on February 28, 1931, to the late John Rodman Bradshaw and Elizabeth Rebecca Pettus Bradshaw. Julia was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years, Coleman Lee Young, Sr; and a granddaughter, Holli Young Bramlett. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother of fourteen, and great-grandmother of thirty.
Having grown up in Kentucky’s Lincoln County, she earned a Nursing degree at Good Samaritan Hospital at the University of Kentucky. Julia Bradshaw and Coleman Young were married on December 17, 1950. After living in Mississippi via a stint in the U. S. Air Force for Coleman, the couple moved to Spartanburg, SC building a life in the dry cleaning business; establishing an exemplary home and selflessly serving their community.
Julia was a member of Morningside Baptist Church, and former member of Park Hills Baptist Church. She loved to sing and was a vibrant member of the ‘Golden Tones’ at Morningside. After the death of her husband in 2005, Julia became an avid volunteer and a ‘light for Jesus’. She was best known for her volunteer work and joyful spirit at St. Luke’s Free Medical Clinic for over 17 years. Julia loved to see evidences of God “surprising” unsuspecting folks. She joyfully gave away many, many copies of the book, “God Wink Stories”.
Julia is survived by five children and their spouses, Beth Young Holden (Ken) of Georgetown, Ky, Coleman Young, Jr. (Jenni) of Spartanburg, Pat Young Bramlett (Ken) of Houston, TX, Pam Young Covington (Steve) of Dallas, TX, and Julie Young Finley (Ken) of Spartanburg. “Mimi” had fourteen grandchildren: Jennifer (Jesse) Raley, Greg (Hannah) Holden, Baileigh (Steven) Tolleson, Drew (Sarah) Bramlett, Lauren (Dan) Wagoner, Chase (Stephanie) Covington, Mark (Ashton) Bramlett, Coleman (Lindsay) Young, III, Amy (Austin) Oxener, Jenna (Will) West, Preston (Kristen) Covington, Madison (Chris) Beamguard, Harris (Annsley) Finley, and Julia Finley.
