Katherine Serena Mathis, 91, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away on December 30, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. She was born on January 11, 1930 in Gaffney, SC, a daughter of the late Arnold and Emma Martin. After only two weeks of dating, Katherine married Norman O. Mathis in July of 1947. They were married for 42 years with Norman preceding her death in 1989. She was a member of Roebuck Baptist Church. Katherine lived a full life. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved her family well. During her lifetime, she worked as an embroiderer, a hostess, and a bookkeeper. She was a talented cook and seamstress. She especially enjoyed crocheting while watching her talk shows. She also had a passion for traveling and dancing. She would proudly demonstrate her "two step" for you at any time. Katherine is survived by her children, Terry Bennett (Ernest), Ricky Mathis (Judy), Lanny Mathis (Kathy), and Mitchell Mathis. She was the proud grandmother of ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind a sister, Louise Pace, three brothers, Kenneth, Terrell, and Ernie Martin; numerous nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Billy Weathers. She will be greatly missed by all. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Chad Mathis; and daughter in-law, Edwina Mathis.
