Landrum, SC - Larry Alexander Bennett Sr.,77, devoted husband of Elaine Martin Bennett, passed away on September 23rd, 2023, in Landrum, SC. Larry's was born on March 15, 1946, in Spartanburg, SC, to the late Dwight Alexander Bennett and Vandora Wood Bennett. Larry dedicated 25 years of his life to the SC Highway Patrol, rising to the rank of Trooper First Class before his well-deserved retirement. He was a proud graduate of Roebuck High School, and his commitment to his community was evident in his involvement as a Shriner, a Mason, and a member of the Gideons. Beyond his dedication to public service, Larry had a passion for working on and restoring old trucks, a hobby that brought him immense joy and satisfaction. He also found peace and happiness by the water's edge, indulging his love for fishing. Yet, perhaps his greatest joy was the time he spent with his beloved grandchildren. Larry was a member of Southport Church in Roebuck, SC, where he nurtured his deep faith and love for the Lord. His devotion to his faith was a cornerstone of his character, and he lived his life as a true God-fearing man. In addition to his loving wife, Elaine, Larry is survived by his daughter, Angela Bennett Brown (Frank) of Columbus, NC, his sons; Larry Bennett II (Lynn) of Bluffton, SC, and Dwight Michael Bennett (Brande) of Landrum, SC. His legacy also lives on through his cherished grandchildren; Logan, Alexis, Sophia, and Dwight "Alex" Bennett, as well as his step-grandchildren; Alyvia and Abigayle Gorham. Services to honor and celebrate Larry's life will be held on Thursday, September 28th, 2023, at the J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home. A visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, followed by a service in the chapel at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
