Spartanburg, SC- Larry Alman Gable, 72, husband of Rhonda G. Gable, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022 at his home.
Born December 21, 1949 in Spartanburg, SC, Larry was a son of the late L.E. Gable and Jimmie Alman Gable. He was raised in Roebuck, SC and a graduate of Dorman High School, class of 1968. Larry graduated from Wofford College with a B.S. degree in biology. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve for seven years. In 1976, he received his Masters of Education degree from the University of South Carolina and became qualified as a boating instructor with the Department of Natural Resources in 1980.
Larry began his career as an educator with Spartanburg District Two in 1974. In 1979, he moved to Spartanburg District Six, where he taught seventh grade science at Gable Middle School. He also coached volleyball and Dorman softball.
He was an active member of Roebuck Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and was active in missionary work. Larry was an avid gardener and yard care specialist. Larry continued to learn through various continuing education courses at Wofford College and Clemson Extension. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a True Blue Cavalier and loved Spartanburg School District Six. If he wasn’t cheering on Dorman, he was actively supporting the Terriers and Gamecocks. Larry loved his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Rhonda, Larry is survived by his children, Chip Key of Spartanburg, SC, Phillip Key (Sierra) of Landrum, SC, and Beth Foster (Brooks) of Roebuck, SC; five grandchildren, Jude and Launa Foster, Averi Key, and Stevie and Wesley Belue; and brothers, Harry Gable (Ann) and Robert Palmer.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Kylie Gable.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 3rd, 5-7PM at Dunbar Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 4th, 3:30PM at Roebuck Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Dr. Tim Williams and Reverend Dr. James R. Gray.
Burial will follow in Heritage Memorial Gardens.
