Linda Gay Hershberger

Moore, SC- Linda Gay Hershberger, 78, wife of David M. Hershberger, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born April 21, 1944 in Purlear, NC, Linda was a daughter of the late Agnes Allgood Waters and Travis W. Waters. She was a graduate of Berea College, class of 1967, where she obtained her degree in education. Linda’s first teaching job was a combined class of fifty 4th and 5th graders in rural Kentucky and she later taught 5th grade in Reynoldsburg, OH for many years.

Linda and David were members of First Baptist Church Spartanburg where they were members of the Early Fellowship Class. Linda’s outgoing personality and nurturing heart acquired her many friendships over the years and she enjoyed writing notes of support and making calls to those who were alone or suffering.

In addition to her husband, David, she is survived by her son, Kyle Hershberger and his wife, Alaine, of Concord, NH; her sister, Carolyn Schmidt, of West Jefferson, NC; three grandchildren and six nieces and nephews.

Linda battled Multiple Sclerosis and it’s complications for many years but remained cheerful, upbeat and firm in her faith to the end.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 21st, 10-10:45AM at Dunbar Funeral Home. Memorial services will follow in the Chapel at 11:00AM, officiated by Reverend Sal Barone.
