Lydia Chastain Patterson

Boiling Springs- Lydia June Chastain Patterson, 71, of Boiling Springs, SC, passed away on September 21st, 2023. Born on August 15th,1952, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the beloved daughter of the late Willis M. Chastain and Beatrice June Combahee Chastain. She is survived by her husband, Glenn Teasley Patterson and her daughters Kathryn June Patterson and Lauren Elizabeth Patterson. She is also survived by her Aunt Doris Chastain Solesby, with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Martie Clifton Chastain, and her sisters, Cynthia Kay Chastain Bradford and Susan Bea Chastain Hoy. Upon graduating from Wheatland High School in 1970 and Winthrop College in December of 1973. Lydia taught 32 years in Spartanburg County District Six at both Fairforest Elementary and West View Elementary. During her teaching career she earned her Masters in Education from the University of South Carolina and her National Boards for Professional Teaching in 2000. She ended her teaching career, teaching 11 years, at Oakbrook Preparatory School. With the expertise she learned in the years of teaching she poured her love and life into the children she taught. Her love of education inspired others through the years of student teachers, also as an adjunct professor for USC Upstate and the Citadel, where she taught other teachers throughout the state how to effectively teach children math. Everyone that knew her found her to be a devoted Christian that would greet you with compassion. She had a contagious joy that surrounded everyone around her. Her nurturing and faithful personality allowed her to be a great mentor and mama/mommy to many. Her faith in her savior Christ Jesus was the key to her heart. Services will be Wednesday, September 27th, 2023, 12:30 PM at the J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home with a visitation starting at 11:30 AM.
