Marcelene Hager Frye

Spartanburg, SC- Rebecca Marcelene Hager Frye, 92, died the morning of December 26, 2022.

“Marcy” was born to Willie and Linnie Hager on November 12, 1930 in Cornelius, NC. She earned a RN Degree from Mercy Hospital and School of Nursing in Charlotte in 1953. She treasured her job as a nurse in Hartsville and Spartanburg, as well as being an Instructor of Nursing at Spartanburg General Hospital.

Marcy is survived by her sisters, Mary Reid of Troutman, NC, Pat Brown of Mooresville, NC, April Phillippi of Derry, PA, and Billie Gardner of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her children, Steven “Skip” Frye and his wife, Chris, of Spartanburg, SC, Robyn Newton and her husband, Craig, of Newberry, SC, and Becky Mullen and her husband, Rick, of Palm Harbor, FL. “Meemaw” was a fun-loving grandmother to Bradley Newton and his wife, Ashley, of Boiling Springs, SC, April Barry, TJ Hudson of Inverness, FL, Brett Newton and his wife, Jessica, of Newberry, SC, Kaley Kirkpatrick and her husband, Drew, of Columbia, SC, Meredith Frye of Columbia, SC, Cody Frye and his wife, Madison, of Chesnee, SC, and Shane Mullen of Fort Myers, FL. She also loved her ten great grandchildren.

Marcy was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, William “Bill” Frye; her brother, Tommy Hager; and her sister, Fredericka Brown.

Mrs. Frye was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she was thrilled to be a choir member.

Memorial services will be held Friday, December 30^th, 11:00AM at Dunbar Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
