Marjorie Coddington Cannon

Spartanburg, SC – Marjorie Coddington Cannon, 81, died at her home surrounded by family, Tuesday, July 13, 2021. Born January 18, 1940 in Charlotte, NC, she was the daughter of the late Dabney Minor Coddington, Martha Johnston Coddington MacFadyen and (stepfather) Alexander Graham MacFadyen. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School and Converse College. Marjorie was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent, Junior League of Spartanburg, The Spartanburg Assembly, Novel Lovers, and several bridge groups. She will be sorely missed by many friends who cherished her spirit. Marjorie was predeceased in death by her husband, Harold McMillan “Sonny” Cannon; brother, Dabney Minor Coddington Jr.; and daughter in-law, Christine Lawrence Finney. She is survived by her fiancée, Terry Peter Miller; her children, Claude Swanson Finney, III “Trey” (Anne), Kathryn Finney White (David), Christopher Lytle Cannon (Cara Lynn), Teresa Cannon Mallory (Skip), Harold Russell Cannon, William Chesley Cannon; and step brother, Alexander Graham MacFadyen, Jr. (Carolyn); grandchildren, Marjorie Coddington White, David “Grier” White Jr., Jeanne Love Hayes Parker (Brian), John Edward Rollins Hayes, III, Theresa McMillan Dailey, Harold MacMillan Cannon II (Maggie), Theresa “Buffy” Cannon Allen (Ryan), Lytle Cannon Fober (Christian), William Gregory Cannon, Harold Edwards Cannon, William Christopher Cannon, and Chesley Cannon Blalock (Trex); great grandchildren, Emma, Cannon, Mason Parker, Rollins Hayes, Jackson, Hayes, Laine Edwards, Margaret Mills Cannon, Charlie, Henry, Annie Allen, Bennet & Mack Fober; and canine companions, Poo II and Doodles. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Georgia, Sharon, Cathy, Jodi, Carolyn and Kitty. Service will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Advent, Spartanburg, SC 29302, Saturday, July 17, 2021, at 11:00AM, with a reception following at The Piedmont Club. In remembrance of Marjorie, memorials may be made to Converse College, Converse University Office of Philanthropy, 580 E. Main Street Spartanburg, SC 29302 or to The Episcopal Church of the Advent, 141 Advent Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. Private Burial will be held in the Elmwood Cemetery at the Coddington Mausoleum in Charlotte, NC.
