Spartanburg, SC- Mary Grace Lancaster Brown, 72, wife of Reverend Dr. David A. Brown for 30 years, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at her home.
Born September 4, 1949 in Spartanburg, SC, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Corrie Eleanor Pettit Lancaster. She was a faithful minister’s wife, commuting back and forth from parsonages in the upstate to Converse College where she was the registrar for 27 years.
Mary is survived by a daughter, Eleanor E. Pomona and her husband, Randall, of Branchville, SC. They served as her chief caretakers in her last days in the hospice program in the residence. She is also survived by a brother, Robert M. Lancaster, III, of Pauline, SC.
She is also survived by granddaughters, Sarah Gonzalez and her husband, Blaine, of Jonesville, SC, Courtney Beckham and her husband, Sam, of Spartanburg, SC, and Allison Reinhardt of Spartanburg, SC; many great grandchildren; step sons, Christopher Brown of Marshall, NC, Mark Brown of E.Calis, VT, and Stephen Brown of St. Augustine, FL and their families.
Mary had many other family members and friends that she deeply cherished and was committed too. She loved to help people and spend time with them and stood by family and friends in almost every situation possible. Mary had a wonderful sense of humor and was committed to her faith, United Methodist and other groups. She loved her dog, Daisy, like family. Mary will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of her company and concern. The world will be less without Mary Grace to comfort others, be a needed friend and fix things, but, heaven will be richer a great saint.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 2nd, 11:00AM at Dunbar Funeral Home. Commital prayers and interment will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens following.
Fr. Bart Leon, pastor of St. Rafka Maronite Catholic Church in Greer and the Catholic Chaplain of Greenville Memorial Hospital, who ministered to her in her final days, and Reverend Douglas Gilliland, longtime friend and retired UMC pastor will officiate.
