Spartanburg, SC- Mary Elizabeth Moore Remington, 88, wife of the late Emory Brace Remington, Jr., died Thursday, April 26, 2018 at her home. Mrs. Remington was born in Islip, New York in 1929 to the late Joseph Allen Moore, Jr. and Mabelle Hallock Moore. She graduated from Islip High School and, later, received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester (New York). Professionally she taught music education and was a choral director for Islip Public Schools for 38 years, retiring in 1989. After retirement, she continued her love of music teaching hundreds of young students how to play piano in Islip. In 2011, Mrs. Remington moved to the Summit Hills community in Spartanburg where she continued her lifelong interest in painting, music, Bridge, and knitting baby caps for the hospital. She also enjoyed very many devoted friendships at Summit Hills. She is survived by her only son, Robert Joseph Remington (Bob) of Spartanburg, South Carolina , and his wife, Catherine; two sisters, Marjorie Dunton of Concord, New Hampshire and Margaret Fisher (Herk) of Canton, Georgia; four grandchildren, Brace Remington and his wife, Erin, of Greenville, SC, David Remington of San Juan Capistrano, CA, Douglas Remington of Philadelphia, PA, and Nanne Remington of Charlotte, NC; and one great grandchild, Mathilda Remington; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 30th, 2:00PM at Summit Hills, 110 Summit Hills Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
