Max Arthur Fritz, Jr.

Spartanburg, SC- Max Arthur Fritz, Jr., 77, husband of Donna Culbertson Fritz, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023.

Born January 26, 1946 in Indianapolis, IN, Max was a son of the late Max Arthur Fritz, Sr. and Elice Frick Fritz. He was a graduate of Ohio University where he was a member of Theta Chi. Max was owner and operator of Maximum Express, a private contractor for the US Postal Service. Max was a longtime member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.

Max was a long time member of the Lan-Yair Country Club until it closed, then he and his golf buddies joined the Creek Golf Club. Max and his wife, Donna, loved sports and loyally attended all of the Wofford football and basketball games for 35 years. They were avid Atlanta Braves fans and Max played in several of Andruw Jones Charity Golf Tournaments. He was also a supporter of the R.J. Rockers -Charles Lea Annual Golf Tournament and played every year until his first surgery in 2020.

Max and Donna, for years, have participated in the Charles Lea Foundation Adopt-a-Home program by adopting two homes, one on Zion Hill road and one on Gaston drive, and consider the 4 girls in each home as part of their family.

In addition to his wife, Donna, Max is survived by his son, Johnathon Fritz (Megan); and his daughter, Jennifer Fritz Bowen (Donald).  He is also survived by his grandchildren; Amelia and Alice Fritz, Amanda Hill, Matthew Parris (Tayler); great grandchildren, Raylin and Izzabelle Parris, Addie and Emery Hill; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to family, he is survived by special friends, David Hull (June), Matt Collins (Amber), Tony Hill, and Greg Robinson. A very special thank you is extended to his caregiver, Tonya Bankhead. 

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, May 3rd, 2:00PM at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 400 Dupre Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
