Mildred LaVerne Gooddy Welchel

Mildred "LaVerne" Gooddy Welchel, 89, of Wellford, SC passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. She was born in Greenville, SC on April 6, 1935 to the late Horace F. and Beatrice House Gooddy.

LaVerne was known for her kind heart and caring nature. She was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved music (especially Rock & Roll) and traveling and was a wonderful cook, but gardening was her true passion. She traveled to New England to build houses and worked for many years with Canteen Vending.

She leaves behind her son, Andrew Welchel of Greenville; daughter, Katherine Welchel Tate of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Jeffrey Austin Tate and Joshua David Tate; great-grandchildren, Chris Stapleton and Elizabeth Stapleton Freeman; and great-great-grandchild, Oliver Freeman. She was predeceased by a son, David Edward Welchel; grandson, Matthew C. Stapleton; and sister, Mary Evelyn McCrary.
