Misayo Yamaguchi Johnson

Misayo Yamaguchi Johnson of Spartanburg, SC passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born in Sasebo, Japan on March 4, 1940 to the late Tsuchio and Toki Yamaguchi.

Raised in Sasebo, Misayo graduated from high school and attended a Catholic Mission. She met Richard when he was stationed overseas with the United States Navy. They were married in San Diego, CA in 1970 and had a wonderful life together. 

Misayo was a talented seamstress and gardener. She worked with Butte Knit for many years before moving to Hamrick’s, Inc. She could often be found in her yard, tending to her flowers and cultivating her vegetables. Misayo will be missed deeply by her family and many friends, who will carry her kindness and generosity with them. 

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard Warren Johnson; sisters, Yasuko Iida and Yoshiko Oishi; and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Misayo was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Johnson, and sister, Kazve Komori.

Memorial services will be 1:00pm on Monday, January 13, 2025 at J. M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376, conducted by Rev. Todd Lowe.
