Nancy Mason Carlisle Cooper

May 7, 1958 — May 14, 2024

Seneca, SC

Mason Carlisle Cooper, 66, of Spartanburg and Seneca, SC, lost her cancer fight at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House surrounded by her family on May 14th, 2024. Mason was born in Spartanburg, SC, and was the daughter of Nancy Caldwell Carlisle and the late John Mason “Jack” Carlisle. She was married to Michael Leonard Cooper, and they celebrated their first anniversary on April 22, 2024.

Mason was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and Clemson University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She earned a Masters of Ed. from Converse University. She maintained many friendships from high school and college, and she valued each and every one of them as treasures. Mason taught at Jesse Boyd Elementary School for 34 years, most of them in third grade. She counted the relationships formed at JBE with her colleagues and students as her greatest joys. “Miss Carlisle’s” influence on the hundreds of children she taught is immeasurable.

Following her retirement from teaching, Mason worked at Home and Garden Classics, and leaves another trail of friends from her time at the store. Mason was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and she took very seriously her covenant faithfully to participate in the ministries of the church by her prayers, her presence, her gifts, and her service. She loved her family, her friends, her church, Jesse Boyd, Clemson, her former students, bright colors, the beach, and the mountains.

In addition to her husband and her mother, Mason is survived by her brother, Jake Carlisle (Noni) of Las Vegas; a nephew, Mac Carlisle of Oklahoma City.

A graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Monday at 4:00 pm on May 20th, conducted by Rev. Michelle Cockcroft and Rev. Sherry Wood. Please wear pink/orange… her favorites.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church Centennial Garden Fund, 626 Norwood Street, Spartanburg, SC, 29302 or online at www.trinityspartanburg.org.
