Nell Sexton Caldwell

Spartanburg SC - Nell Sexton Caldwell, 90, passed away Friday, August 13,2021 following a massive stroke. Born November 3, 1930 in Gainesville, Ga., she was one of six daughters of the late John Samuel Sexton and Mamie Ellet McNeal Sexton. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, an excellent roller skater, a gifted seamstress, and was known for her love of fabric, design, sewing and sketching. In the years she lived in the countryside of Union County, SC, she designed and handmade custom draperies and bedding for clients in the upstate, and was a proficient bushhogger in between. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, and a former member of Tabernacle Baptist of Union and Cudd Memorial Baptist of Spartanburg. She is survived by her children, John Caldwell (Marcie) of Summerville SC, Dinah McCall of Spartanburg, Libby Hall (Paul) of Lincolnton NC, Robin Caldwell (Gail) of Chesnee, and grandchildren, John Harkey, Mason Caldwell, Seth Caldwell, Ellet McCall, Melissa Phillips, Stacey Phillips, Jacob Hall (Amanda), Christina Winchester (Chris), and Timothy Hall (Catherine); 21 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nephews and a niece. She is also survived by her sister, Becky Baker of Spartanburg. She was predeceased by her parents, and sisters Elizabeth Duncan, Lillian Linder, Johnnie Ghanayem and Mary Ann Harmon. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 17th, 11:00AM at Dunbar Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend Dr. Dennis Bean. The family will receive friends following the service. A private burial will be held. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Encouraging Word, PO Box 2110, Spartanburg SC 29304.
