On the evening of August 6, 2024, the world lost a beautiful soul far too soon. Nicolas Alexander Huntley, known affectionately as Nick, was just 19 years old when he was tragically taken from us due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Nick was born in Columbia, SC, lived in Lexington, KY for many of his formative years and was a current resident of Inman, SC where he lived with his mom and step-dad. Nick had his whole life ahead of him.
Nick was a young man of extraordinary passion and diverse talents. As a student at Spartanburg Community College, he was pursuing his love of all things mechanical through studies in Mechatronics. His ultimate dream though was to become a Coast Guard helicopter pilot, driven by a profound desire to help others.
Music was the rhythm of Nick's life. A 2023 graduate of Boiling Spring High School, he showcased his leadership skills as a front-line member of the school's marching band. His mastery of percussion, particularly the marimba, was a testament to his dedication and skill.
Nick's passion for life was evident in everything he did. He approached each interest with natural skill and innate knowledge - be it cars, motorcycles, or anything mechanical – with enthusiasm. When faced with a challenge, he would watch instruction videos until he mastered it. Nick's talents extended beyond mechanics to music, cooking, baseball, golf, and photography, with a particular flair for drone videography.
Above all, Nick was known for his kindness and compassion. His warm smile and outgoing nature made everyone feel welcome. Always ready to lend a hand, Nick was invariably the first to arrive and the last to leave when help was needed.
Nick leaves behind a loving family who supported him wholeheartedly. He is survived by his mother, Terna L. Rushing, and stepfather, Michael R. "Mike" Rushing of Inman, SC; his sister, Breton V. Strehl (Felix); step-siblings Lillian M. Rushing of Clover, SC, and Natalie E. Rushing and William T. “Will” Rushing, both of Rock Hill, SC; and grandparents, Donna J. Brummett of Kingsport, TN, and Carl A. Rushing of Mint Hill, NC.
He is also survived by his father, Jon C.S. Huntley, and step-mother Charlotte H. Huntley of Lexington, SC; step-siblings Christopher L. Hughes (Faith), Christian L. Hughes, and Amber D. Hughes, all of Lexington, SC; and grandfather Francis F. Huntley of Zyperhills, FL. He is also survived by his loving girlfriend, Jenna M. Byrd of Chesnee, SC, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends who also mourn his loss.
Nick was predeceased by his grandfather Terry W. Brummett of Kingsport, TN, and grandmothers Ruby A. Rushing of Mint Hill, NC, and Sandra J. Huntley of Zyperhills, FL.
Visitation will be 10:00-11:15am on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Lake Bowen Baptist Church, 404 Sugar Ridge Road, Inman, SC 29349. Funeral services will follow at 11:30am in the sanctuary.
In honor of Nick, memorial contributions may be made to the Spartanburg Humane Society or the National Motorcycle Safety Fund.
Nick's life, though brief, was filled with joy, love, and promise. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends and continue to inspire all who knew him to live life to the fullest, just as he did.
