Nilda Gomez Acevedo went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 12, 2024. She was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico on June 22, 1930, to the late Ramon and Josefa Vargas Gomez.
After leaving Puerto Rico at the age of 17, Nilda lived in Brooklyn, NY from 1947 until 1966, when she moved to Schenectady, NY. She retired from the Campbell Plastics Company in 1992 after 26 years of service. In 2003, she relocated to Duncan, SC.
Nilda is survived by two sons, Hector Acevedo (Diane) of Schenectady, NY and Robert Acevedo (Erin) of Ipswich, MA; and two daughters, Maggie DiBlasio (John) of Moore, SC and Mini Hoffman (Chris) of Duncan, SC. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two siblings and their spouses, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Aurelio Acevedo, as well as five other siblings.
A gathering for the committal of her ashes will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
