Oren Raysor Judy, Jr., born in St. George, South Carolina to Oren Raysor Judy, Sr., and Carrie Nesbitt Judy on December 6, 1926, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021, after a very brief illness. Oren grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina attending Spartanburg city schools. Upon graduation in 1944, he attended Clemson University for his Freshman year, at which time he entered the US Navy and served in the South Pacific. After returning from service, he attended Wofford College where he graduated in August of 1949. Oren always loved sports growing up. He was an avid tennis player, playing in the No. 1 position for Clemson and later for the Wofford tennis team from 1947-1949. And, later in life, enjoyed playing golf at Spartanburg Country Club. Upon graduation, he immediately began a career as a teacher at Spartanburg High School for two years. In March, 1952, he entered the life insurance business and began a 63-year career in insurance. He was past president of the Spartanburg Life Underwriters, the Spartanburg Chapter of C.L.U.’s, the Western Carolina Chapter of C.L.U.’s and the Spartanburg Estate Planning Council. He founded The Judy Agency, Inc., on February 1st, 1966 and loved dealing with clients and friends in their insurance planning. He was a lifetime member and former deacon at First Presbyterian Church except for a brief period as a charter member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oren Raysor Judy and Carrie Nesbitt Judy, his wife, Polly Day Judy, to whom he was married for 63 years and by his only sibling, Perry McSwain Judy. Oren is survived by his children, Polly Melinda Judy Martin (Edward) of Johnson City, TN, Oren Randolph Judy (Kim) of Simpsonville, SC, and John Thomas Judy (Glynnis) of Greenville, SC.; his grandchildren David Alan Martin (Krista), John Edward Martin (Nicole), Carrie Elizabeth Martin, William Randolph Judy (Casey), Benjamin Ross Judy, Jamison Ann White, John Jacob Judy and his fiancé’ Graceanna Ellenburg, Samuel Mitchell Judy, and great-grandchildren, Sarah Nicole and Reagan Mackenzie Martin, Dean Edward and Cole Henry Martin, Caroline Eaker & William Raysor Judy, and a future grandchild to be born any day to Will and Casey Judy. He is also survived by his special friend, Joan Gibson whose company brought him so much joy and love in the last six years. The family is especially indebted for the special love and care shown to Pop by his grandson, Ben, who assisted Pop each and every day devoting himself to being at Pop’s side in a minute’s notice and for that, the family will always be eternally grateful.
