Peggy Murphy Barnette

Peggy Murphy Barnette, age 64, died January 16, 2025, after battling cancer. Peggy was the daughter of the late Ellis and Kate Murphy, born in Atlanta, Georgia on July 9, 1960. She attended Spartanburg Day School and was a Converse College graduate.

Peggy is survived by two children, Kris Bell Humphreys (Preston) and Walter Richard Barnette; her partner, Russell Postal; five grandchildren, Claire and Will Humphreys, and Leah, Mason, and Westin Barnette; a niece, Ellis Murphy Collins Gammons (Cameron); and her brother-in-law, Wally Collins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Emma Candler Barnette; granddaughter, Anna Megan Blackwell; sister, Kathy Murphy Collins; and brother, Walter Holmes Murphy.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at 10:45 AM at The J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home on Friday, January 24, 2025 followed by an 11:30 service in their chapel.

In remembrance of Peggy, memorials may be made to the Gibbs Cancer Center Mammography Assistance Fund or to the charity of your choice.
