Peggy Ann Fisher Wakefield, widow of Bill Wakefield, of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025 at the age of 82. She was born in Bryson City, NC on August 30, 1942, a daughter of the late Christine and Edgar Fisher.
After graduating from Swain County High School, Peggy attended Western Carolina University, where she earned her bachelor’s in education. She became a first grade teacher in Bryson City and was beloved by her students. When her children were born, Peggy became a stay-at-home mom; family was always her highest priority and greatest joy. She was a loving wife, caring mother, and adoring grandmother.
Peggy and Bill were together for 35 years, traveling the world. She owned and operated a florist shop for many years, serving her community. Peggy was a long-time member of First Baptist Spartanburg, which was evidenced by her selfless nature. She was a generous, loving woman, donating food and blankets to the homeless and always willing to help anyone in need.
She is survived by her children, Maria Reinertson (Ross Vinsant) and McKrae Game (Jimmy Palmer) of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Christian, Brent, Reese, and Bryce Reinertson and Seth and Caroline Game; and sister, Judy Moody (Reg) of Sylva, NC. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joann Thomas (Jim).
The family would like to say a special thanks to Wanda Brown for her loving care of Peggy over the years.
Visitation will be 10:30-11:15am on Monday, February 3, 2025 in the parlor at First Baptist Spartanburg, 250 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. Funeral services will follow at 11:30am in the Davis Chapel, conducted by Rev. Sal Barone. Burial will immediately follow the services in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
