Reneé Huston McCredie

Reneé Huston McCredie, 88, wife of the late James Lee “Jimmy” McCredie, died at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Born June 21, 1935 in Chicago, IL, she was the only child of the late Everette Glenn and Ceclia Davin Huston. After her family moved to Columbia, SC Reneé enrolled in and graduated from Dreher High School. She attended The University of South Carolina, where she met the love of her life, Jimmy. They were married on April 14, 1954 and traveled extensively with the United States Air Force for six years before settling in Spartanburg. Reneé and Jimmy were married for 54 years. Reneé loved her family dearly; her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her whole life. They enjoyed snow skiing and spent many winters in Sugar Mountain, NC. She was a member of Spartanburg Country Club, where she was an avid tennis player. Reneé was also an active member of the Lady Slipper Garden Club. Jimmy and Reneé were founding members of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. She was a member of Episcopal Church of the Advent. In addition to her husband, Reneé was predeceased by a son, James Huston McCredie, and son-in-law, William “Billy” Cribb. She leaves behind her loving children, Glenn McCredie of Spartanburg and Lynn M. Brassfield (Chris) of John’s Island, SC; grandchildren, Michael J. McCredie of Jacksonville, FL, Ashley M. Fankhauser (Seth) of Denver, CO, Troy Kenneth Cribb, William Cribb (Rebekah), Lee C. Jackson (Tyler), and Jamie Cribb (Madeline), all of Spartanburg; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Hayden, Zoey, Riley, Caleb, Harper, Rowan, and Lila. Funeral services will begin with a private burial in Oakwood Cemetery. A memorial service will be 3:00pm Monday, November 13, 2023 in the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 141 Advent Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. A reception will immediately follow at the home. In honor of Reneé, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
