Richard Michael Mitchell, 81, of Inman, SC passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023. Born in Coal Junction, PA on January 15, 1942, he was a son of the late John and Bertha Mitchell. Richard was a hard-working Christian man. After graduating from Boswell School, he became a long-haul trucker. He then entered the field of coal mining as an electrician. After moving to South Carolina, he worked for Castle Electrical company and then performed maintenance work at Pet Dairy. After some time there, he began his career with the South Carolina Department of Corrections, where he retired. Richard and his wife, Ruth, attended Milestone Church in Spartanburg, SC. He leaves behind his wife, Ruth Ohler Mitchell; sons, Lee Mitchell (wife Jennifer), Michael Mitchell (wife Crystal) and Todd Trent (wife Debbie); granddaughters, Nicole Mitchell, Katelyn Hall, Brittany Kennedy, and Cassie Pourbaugh; grandsons, Jonathan Aber, Ryan Hall, Nathan Daugherty, Chase Mitchell, and Hayden Pruitt; 5 great grandchildren. Sisters, Kaye Countryman (husband James) and Elaine Smith (husband Ray). Along with his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, John Mitchell and Roger Mitchell. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Milestone Church, 885 Simuel Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301. The family requests memorial donations be made in Richard’s honor to Wildlife Action Upstate Chapter, PO Box 2394, Spartanburg, SC 29304 or a charity of one’s choice.
