Richard Craig Steward of Spartanburg, SC passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025 at the age of 69. He was born in Spartanburg on June 12, 1955 to the late Charles Edward and Yvonne Bunkie Steward.
Ricky was a graduate of Spartanburg High School. He dedicated 42 years of his life as a machine operator with Union Camp, where his work ethic and commitment earned him the respect of all who knew him. He had a passion for history, particularly war history, and enjoyed exploring battlefields, battleships, and museums. Ricky also had a fascination with old steam trains, antique shows, tractor shows, and auctions, where he could immerse himself in history and treasure the past.
Ricky's greatest joy was his family, his beloved dogs, and his horses. A skilled gardener, he enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden. In his spare time, he could often be found in his workshop, where he displayed his talent for woodworking, participating in craft shows and even building his own home. Above all, Ricky was known as the best kind of man—honorable, kind, and full of integrity. His generosity, humility, and unwavering commitment to those he loved will never be forgotten. He touched the lives of many, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his children, Randi Taylor (James), Craig Steward (Amanda), and Ethan Steward; grandchildren, Maddeline Taylor, James Taylor, Derrick Taylor, Zach Steward, and Sophie Steward; brother, Eddie Steward (Carol); brother-in-law, Frank Parris; and nephews, Jason Parris, Scottie Parris, and Jamie Parris. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Donna Parris.
Visitation will be 2:00-2:45pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at J. M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. Funeral services will follow at 3:00pm in the chapel, conducted by Rev. Todd Lowe.
