Richard Craven "Rick" Webb

Colonel Richard C. “Rick” Webb Spartanburg - Colonel (U.S. Army Ret.) Richard (“Rick”) Craven Webb, 69, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, passed away on December 27, 2020, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Born on February 8, 1951, in Fairmont, North Carolina, Col. Webb was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Richard Webb. Col. Webb grew up in Myrtle Beach, which fostered a lifelong love of the ocean, seafood, beach music, and shag dancing. Upon graduating Myrtle Beach High School in 1969, Col. Webb attended Wofford College, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science in 1973. Col. Webb obtained a Masters in Education from the University of South Carolina in 1982 and an Education Specialist degree from the University of South Carolina in 1983. Col. Webb served in the U.S. Army from 1969 until his retirement in 2002, and spent the years following his service working in schools as an educator. He had a deep knowledge and passion for history that he enjoyed sharing with students, family, and friends. Col. Webb was active in his church, First Baptist Spartanburg, where he was a member of the Cox/Irvin Sunday School class, participated in Kentucky Missions, and served as a Deacon and a member of the Military Committee. He was also involved with the Lions Club and the Disabled American Veterans. Col. Webb is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mrs. Ann Clark Webb; his children, Dr. Richard Clark Webb (Beth) and Mrs. Suzanne Webb Jones (James); and his granddaughters, Anne Caroline and Elizabeth Webb. Col. Webb was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Evelyn Grace Jones. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Spartanburg. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and kindly asks that COVID protocols (mask-wearing and social distancing) be observed. There will be a graveside ceremony to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Col. Richard Craven Webb Endowed Scholarship Fund, Wofford College, Office of Advancement, 429 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, S.C., 29303.
