Spartanburg, SC- Robert W. Gossett, 96, husband of the late Ruth Bulman Gossett, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018, surrounded by his family. Born November 21, 1921 in Spartanburg, SC, Robert was a son of the late Robert W. and Grace Staggs Gossett. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and Cecil’s College of Business. Robert honorably served his country during WWII in the US Air Force in the 1063rd Quartermaster Company, 10th Service Group Aviation, and as a Special Services Representative. He worked for Hammond-Brown-Jennings for 50 years. After his retirement, he was a member of the Spartanburg Realtors Association for over 25 years. Robert was a lifelong member of The Sertoma Club of Downtown Spartanburg and St. John’s Lodge Masons #333. He was a dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a devoted husband, daddy, grandfather, and great grandfather who loved the Clemson Tigers, fishing, walking the beach hunting seashells, and spending time with his family. Robert is survived by his daughters, Linda G. Smith (Stephen) of Gray Court, SC and Jill Martin of Boiling Springs, SC; granddaughters, Sarah A. Martin of Boiling Springs, SC, Loren Hyatt (Craig Moore) of Amman, Jordan, and Leah H. Peace (Taylor) of Columbia, SC; great granddaughter, Savana Rain Hughes (Levi Hughes); and his dog, Tyler. In addition to his wife of 73 years, Robert was predeceased by his brother, James W. Gossett; his sisters, Marjorie G. Atkins and Mabel W. Henderson; and his son in-law, Mark Martin. Funeral services with military honors will be held Sunday, November 4th, 3:00PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
