Ronald “Ronnie” Riddle, Sr., 77, of Moore, South Carolina, passed away on October 16, 2024 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Born on November 17, 1946, to Harold and Lula Riddle, Ronnie was the perfect example of hard work and dedication. After graduating from S.C. School for the Deaf and Blind in 1966, he devoted his life to his career, family and community.
During his school years at Cedar Springs in the 1960’s, Ronnie Sr. was a member of the Walker Literacy Society, performing on stage and excelling in American Sign Language storytelling. He also played basketball all four years of high school. After his graduation in 1966, Ronnie Sr. was loyal and beloved both in his profession as a bindery foreman and a dedicated volunteer for the South Carolina School for the Deaf Alumni Association and Southeastern Deaf Golfers Association.
Ronnie Sr. married Ann Scarboro in 1969, and they raised two children, Ron Jr. and Wanda, in a home filled of love and laughter. His love for sports was evident in his hobbies, which included collecting baseball cards, watching the Atlanta Braves and Falcons games on TV, rooting for USC Gamecocks football team and USC women basketball team, and following the Clinton Red Devils football team.
A visitation will be held on October 21, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the J. M. Dunbar Funeral Home in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where friends and family can gather to honor a man who made a lasting impact through his gentle presence and generous actions.
A graveside service will follow at 1 PM at Heritage Memorial Gardens in Roebuck, SC
The Riddle family invites donations to the S.C. School for the Deaf Association Sports Hall of Fame fund, honoring Ronnie Sr.’s belief in the value of young Deaf athletes. Financial contributions can be sent through the mail. See the donation form below for more information.
