Rudy Dean Blanton

Rudy Dean Blanton, 70, of Roebuck, SC passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Born February 17, 1953, he was the son of the late Dean Crane and Mae Ellen Blanton. A true craftsman, Rudy discovered his passion for woodworking as an apprentice cabinet maker in high school. He later built homes he and his family lived in and finally culminated a career at the S.C. School for the Deaf and Blind helping maintain and repair the campus. In retirement, he turned his skills toward volunteer work for the Solid Rock Church where he made lasting impacts to the facilities both inside and out. He cherished his family, church congregation, Dorman athletics (Class of ’71), football and baseball at any level. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. Rudy is remembered as a quiet, reliable, and compassionate father, husband, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children: Joe Blanton (Jackie), Angela Peake (Andy), Kelly Camara (Bobby); step children: Juli Bevill (Paul), Angie Evans (Roger), Anita Guy (Marvin); 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00pm on Monday, December 11, 2023 at J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. A funeral service will be 1:30pm on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 also at J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home in the Chapel, conducted by Rev. Randy Lewis. The graveside service at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Pauline, SC will immediately follow the memorial service.
