Spartanburg, SC- Entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 14, 2023, she was the wife of the late John Marshall Evans. Hobby was born August 23, 1936 to the late Lonnie Franklin and Martha Hobbs Abernethy and grew up in Rock Hill, SC. She attended the Rock Hill Cooperative School, Queens College and was a graduate of Winthrop College.
Hobby is survived by three sons, John Marshall Evans, Jr.(Ann), Douglas Abernethy Evans (Teena), and George Long Evans (Brandi); her grandchildren, Fayssoux Moss, Mary Mac Lyon, Ruth Hobbs King, Kate Peters, Will Evans, Emma Hardin-Parker, Sadie Evans, Chandler Johnston; and her great grandchildren, Hobbs and George Moss, Pierce Lyon, Denham Masto, Dottie and Ruthie Peters, Copper Evans, Finley and Oliver Johnston, Ella Caitlin Stokes; she is also survived by a sister, Douglas Abernethy Hollingsworth; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by granddaughters, Rachel Evans, Caitlin Stokes; and brother in-law, Thomas B. Hollingsworth.
Hobby was a past president of the Junior League of Spartanburg, Tea n Topics Bookclub. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where in addition to her many years of faithful fellowship, she served her congregation as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Elder.
Hobby was a very involved and devoted grandmother for 35 years. She most recently delighted in spending time with her many great grandchildren, which she called a benefit of starting her family early in life
The memorial service will be held Sunday, March 12th, 3-5PM at the home of Marshall and Ann Evans.
