Ruth Bernice Tillotson Riddle

Ruth Bernice Tillotson Riddle, 90, of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Spartanburg on September 19, 1933 to the late Bernice H. and Henry Tillotson. 

Ruth was a very sweet, loving woman, and a wonderful role model of strength and independence. She loved everyone, but especially her family and beloved pets. Ruth worked as a secretary for several companies, most notably Higginbotham Textile Machinery and Holmberg Electronics. As an accomplished musician she traveled with the “Picking Partners”, playing mountain music in many events and festivals. Ruth was also dedicated to her church, River View Baptist Church, and played piano there for many years. 

She is survived by her sons, Mike Stewart of Greer, SC and James “Bo” Stewart of Marietta, GA; daughter, Teresa Blackwell of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Savannah Stewart, Pie Stewart, and Amber McDowell; two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by two husbands, Rex Stewart and Vernon Riddle; son, David Stewart; sisters, Dot Pruitt, Bobbie Fowler, and Annie Lee Staggs; brothers, Bud Tillotson and Jake Tillotson; and step-grandchildren, Sloan Manley, Kay Terrell, and their children. 

Graveside services will be 10:00am on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 in Fort Prince Memorial Gardens, 126 Fort Prince Road, Wellford, SC 29385, conducted by Rev. Tim Worthy. The family will receive friends following the service at River View Baptist Church in Spartanburg.
