Samuel “David” Bagwell of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at the age of 77. He was born in Greenville, SC to the late Susie Whitt and Stancil Oscar Bagwell.
A 1965 graduate of Hillcrest High School, David attended the University of South Carolina. He became a systems analyst, eventually earning the title of Director of Computer Services for Greenville Hospital System and then the City of Spartanburg. David was also musically talented. He played trumpet in high school and was a member of the choir at Fairforest Baptist Church. David assisted his wife, Karen, in her role as music director by operating the music equipment and singing solos. He was known by all as a helpful, outgoing, dependable man.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Karen Gardner Bagwell; children, Chad Hodge and Michelle Hodge Rhodes (Brian); and granddaughter, Hannah Rhodes. He is also survived by Stan Bagwell (Sheila), Lisa Mckee (Kevin), Amy Parris (Billy), and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Billy Jack Bagwell.
