Spartanburg, SC- Sara Turner Hughey, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by love on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. She was widowed by her late husband, Cecil F. Hughey, and was the daughter of the late James Francis Turner and Iris Mae Emory.
Sara is survived by her sons, Cecil Hughey, Jr. “Mike” and Steve Hughey (Susan); daughter, Sheila Seifert (Harold) all of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Brandi Bailey and Steven Hughey (Taylor); and great grandchildren, Rebecca Bailey, Aiden Haygood, and Jamey Hughey.
She is also survived by her sisters, Eleanor Doe Horn of Bluffton, SC, Mary Louise Gaines (Rev. Ted Gaines) of Greenville, SC, Iris Elaine Leonard (Carl) of Moore, SC, and Barbara Cathcart Mosley (John) of Lyman, SC.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Stephanie LaVonne Hughey; great granddaughter, Stephanie Marie Bailey; sisters, Ruby Strong (Elbert) and Vera Mae Edge (David); brothers, John Vester Turner (Betty) and James R. Turner (Patty); and brothers in-law, Joe Horne and Ralph Cathcart.
Sara was a lifetime member of Southside Baptist Church, a member of the Eastern Star and the Ladies Auxillary, Hillbilly Clan #2. She dedicated her life and strength to taking care of her son, Mike.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Lois Wright and Steve and Shelly Grant for all the compassion they showed to Sara and Mike over the years.
Sara will be available for viewing on Tuesday, November 8th, 1:00-2:00PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. The family will not be present during this time.
