Roebuck, SC- Sharon Laqueeta Cockrell, 77, wife of the late James Cockrell, Jr., died Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born January 25, 1946 in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Gertrude Bradley Smalley and Paul Murph, Sr. Sharon was a graduate of Fairforest High School and Spartanburg Technical College’s Nursing Program. She went back to school 20 years later to become a LPN and worked for Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and Mary Black Physicians Group. She worked as a nurse for over 30 years before her retirement.
Sharon was a longstanding member of Temple Church for more than 65 years and had perfect attendance for over 40 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Allison Ingle; son in-law, Chad; a special granddaughter, Anna Grace Ingle; a son, Chad Cockrell; daughter in-love, Kelly Cockrell; granddaughter, Kyla and husband, Joshua Pruitt; bonus daughter, Terri Ricks; sister, Brenda Murph; sister in-law, Donna Sawyer (Derek); niece, Heather Sawyer; brother in-law, JL (JT) Harper and Capers Rembert Cockrell (Hilda).
She was predeceased by her siblings, Judy Harper, Paul Murph, Jr., Bruce Murph, and Morris Murph; and nephew, Johnny Ray Harper.
Sharon had many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly; and special friends, Gary and Edith Bailey, Mark Lawing, and her church family.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. Henry Shugart, Dr. Bill James, Centerwell Staff, and the wonderful hospice group, Agape.
A visitation will be held Saturday, July 29th, 1-2PM at Temple Church, 171 Watkins Court, Spartanburg, SC 29301, with funeral services following at 2PM, officiated by Reverend Mark Lawing and Reverend Jesse Harper.
The burial will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at the home.
