Shelvy Gardner Peterman, age 85, died suddenly on November 23, 2022 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born February 7, 1937 in Bells Landing, PA, daughter of the late Gerald Gardner and Veda Wyke Gardner, she is predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Furman Thomas Peterman, and her daughter, Maureen Elizabeth Menzer. She is survived by her sons, Michael Peterman (Robyn) of West Grove, PA, Brian Peterman (Mary) of Voorhees, NJ, and Thomas Peterman of Columbia, SC, her son in-law, Bruce Menzer, and her grandchildren, Vanessa Peterman Broomfield (Glen), Katherine Menzer and Luke Menzer, and her two great grandchildren, Alto Broomfield and Van Broomfield.
For most of her life, Shelvy was a devoted wife and mother, and her husband’s career required her to move her ever growing family from Pittsburgh, PA, to Chagrin Falls, OH, Rochester, MI, Alexandria, VA, Waco, TX, and Paoli, PA, before moving to Spartanburg, SC in 1988. Later in life she found a career in floral arranging, which utilized some of her many artistic skills, and for many years she worked for the A Arrangement Florist in Spartanburg.
Like her first name, Shelvy was a unique original, who was always kind and friendly to all she encountered, but at the same time, she was fiercely independent. She enjoyed many artistic and domestic pursuits, not only floral arranging, but she was also a skilled seamstress, and a very accomplished gourmet in the kitchen. Her easygoing and amiable nature made her a delight to be around, and she will be greatly missed by anyone lucky enough to have known her.
