Boone, NC- Stephen Milton Thompson, II, 49, died unexpectedly in Orange County, FL. Born October 15, 1968 in Charleston, SC, Stephen was the son of Stephen Milton Thompson and Charlotte Burns Thompson of Spartanburg, SC. He grew up attending Fernwood Baptist Church where he was active in their youth program. As a youth, he was a cellist in orchestra and also excelled in cross country, football, baseball, and basketball. He graduated from Spartanburg High School and attended Appalachian State University. Stephen resided in Boone, NC for over twenty years where he enjoyed a supportive community. Stephen was known for being a dedicated worker in the restaurant and catering business. He especially enjoyed serving and meeting new people. He never met a stranger. In addition to his parents, Stephen is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Anne Thompson Ward and Mark Edward Ward. He was the proud uncle of Layton Mark, Madison Anne, and Charlotte Neal Ward, whom he adored. He loved showing his support of them by attending their recitals, sporting events, and Youth Theater plays. Stephen especially enjoyed being with family and helping to host holiday gatherings. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 29th, 2:00PM at Fernwood Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Randy Wright. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fernwood Baptist Church, 200 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307 or to the charity of one’s choice.
