Steven Lee Massey

Spartanburg, SC- Steven Lee Massey, 71, husband of Diane Mims Massey, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born June 6, 1952, Steven was a son of the late Ivie Lee Massey and Inez Agnes Martin Massey. He was a graduate of Dorman High School, class of 1970, and was called to Vietnam during the military draft. During his service, Steven worked as a military medic and was awarded a Purple Heart. Upon his return, he worked with the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.

Steven was one of the first paramedics in Spartanburg and was recognized as Shift Supervisor. He was an EMT Instructor with Spartanburg Technical College since the start of their program in 1973 until his retirement in 1993. Steven also worked with Spartanburg Regional Medical Center as a Vascular Tech, with Spartanburg EMS as a Dive Master with the Dive Team, and as a reserve officer with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office. 

He loved to travel and scuba dive and was a member of the Spartanburg HOG Club and the Spartan Lodge where he was Worshipful Master. 

In addition to his wife, Diane, Steven is survived by his son, Christopher Massey and his wife, Aleshia, of Inman, SC; his daughter, Jennifer Massey Seigler and her husband, Michael, of Lyman, SC; stepdaughter, Brandi Parton and her husband, Zach, of Pauline, SC; and his adored grandchildren, Carlin and Kenna Massey, AJ Seigler, and Wylie Parton.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Alex Seigler; and a sister, Nena Massey.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the loving and caring staff of the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. 

The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 21st, 11:00AM-12:45PM at Dunbar Funeral Home.

Funeral services with masonic rites will follow at 1:00PM, officiated by Reverend Archie Calhoun.

Burial with military honors will be in Heritage Memorial Gardens.
