Susan Lee Heckroth

August 22, 1951 — April 5, 2025

Susan Heckroth (73) of Woodruff, SC died peacefully in the early morning hours of April 5th, 2025. She was surrounded by an immense amount of love and appreciation for her huge heart and witty sense of humor that charmed everyone who met her.

Susan was the oldest of 6 children—born on August 22nd, 1951 in Philadelphia, PA to proud parents Elaine Grace Yeagle (née Bishop) and Lester Charles Yeagle Sr.

Susan graduated high school at the top of her class and went on to have a long, successful career in secretarial/clerical work for a number of businesses, with her longest and favorite tenure at CL Cannon & Sons in Spartanburg, SC.

After retirement, with no intentions of slowing down, Susan worked at Dollar General in Reidville, SC where she was lovingly known as Ms. Sue.

Survived by her only child, Melissa Donnelly, and her 4 sisters—Barbara Elaine Eggert (Clifford), Janet Ann Roccamo (Carlo), Karen Fay Decker (Joseph), and Nancy Jean Yeagle—Susan’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all that knew her. Her daughter is particularly proud of Susan’s strong spirit and ability to make friends at every corner, and her ability to show grace throughout all of life’s many challenges.

Susan was also the proud aunt of 7 beautiful nieces and nephews—Brian Eggert, Wayne Eggert, Jennifer Roccamo, Cheryl Donofrio, Crystal Caito, Amanda Decker, and Joseph Decker Jr.

Preceded in death by her younger brother, Lester Charles Yeagle Jr, and her beloved parents, Elaine and Lester Sr, there is much comfort to be had in knowing she is finally able to enjoy their company again.

A very special thank you is extended to the Assisted Living staff at Brookstone Terrace (Simpsonville, SC) as well as the Brookstone Terrace Hospice team—to whom the family will be forever indebted to for the exceptional love and care that they gave to Susan during her final months and days.

Susan was someone who loved to give rather than receive—a trait she inherited from her mother—so we ask that you consider making a donation in Susan’s name to an animal rescue or your local garden club/arboretum. Susan was a passionate gardener and lover of flowers, with a soft spot for all animals—especially cats.

Susan’s funeral service will be held at J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home (Roebuck, SC) on April 11th, 2025 at 2:00 pm, with visitation beforehand starting at 1:00 pm. Her body will be laid to rest nearby at Heritage Memorial Gardens.
