Susan Ethel Goar Worthen

Susan Ethel Goar Worthen, 78, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023. Born on September 5, 1945 in Dallas, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Howell Thomas Goar and Marjorie Garnett Goar. Susan was a devoted wife and mother and a cherished friend of many. Her kindness, sincerity, and love left an indelible mark on our hearts. She attended Randolph Macon Women’s College in Virginia, where she met the love of her life, John E. Worthen, who was a student at nearby Washington & Lee University. Marrying soon after graduation, the two moved around the country and traveled the world during their 56 years together. Susan is survived by her husband, and their two daughters, Ami (Jason Krekel) and Jennifer, who brought her so much joy. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a brother, Thomas T. Goar, Sr. (Jo Ann Morris). She is also survived by her nephew Thomas T. Goar, Jr. (Shannon, Lindsey, Brady). In addition to raising her children, Susan volunteered for community organizations and worked at Leigh Fibers for many years. After retirement, she stayed active traveling, volunteering at places such as the Spartanburg Public Library, and spending time with her beloved friends and family and her treasured dog, Ralph.
