Sylvia B. Kay, 71, joined her beloved husband of 48 years, Donald L. Kay, in heaven on Thursday, October 21. She was a daughter of Jonie B. and Vera Miller Bridgeman. Sylvia loved life! She loved her friends, Don’s friends, her neighbors, her church family, the beach, cooking, flowers, reading, and most of all her family. She was an alumnus of Dorman High School and University of South Carolina. Sylvia was a very active, supportive member of Arcadia United Methodist Church and retired from Milliken after 34 years of service. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Leigh Kay Sweeney (Troy) and her grandchildren Mary Elizabeth and Meredith Anne Sweeney of Kingston, TN. Also surviving are her sisters, Elaine Bridgeman Gibson of Spartanburg, SC and Libby Bridgeman Cronkrite of Aiken, SC; and brother-in-law James Kay Vines (Stewart). Sylvia loved her extended family of nieces and nephews and she and Don called them their children. They are Kelly Gibson Phipps, Brooke Gibson Fowler (Joe), Jonie Abraham Green, Iva Nichole Munn (Ezra), Ethan Spencer Vines, James Grahame Vines; great nephews and nieces, Miles Jacob Phipps, Ramsay Porter Green, Madison Tucker Green, Natalie Cooper Green, Gibson Joseph Fowler, Georgia Miller Fowler, Griffin Leigh Munn and Maezzie Dale Munn; great-great nephew, Cullen Heathman Munn were all very special to her. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 30th at 12:00PM, at Arcadia United Methodist Church, 391 Arcadia Street, Arcadia, South Carolina, 29301. The family will receive friends after the service. Reverends David Ervin and Skipper Brock will officiate. In lieu of flowers, it is Sylvia’s request to donate to Arcadia United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 143, Arcadia, SC 29320.
