Spartanburg, SC- Tessie Hunt Mathis, 92, wife of Harold Douglas Mathis, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born August 23, 1929 in Spartanburg, SC, she was a daughter of the late Henry Thomas and Rosa High Hunt. Tessie was the owner of The Apple Barrell, gifts and antiques for 14 years. She loved interior design and shopping for antiques. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family to find the perfect items for her shop and customers. She was an avid animal lover. Tessie had a special place in her heart for strays and pedigree’s alike. Her faithful, pawed, companions were always by her side. Another love was her church. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She loved her many Morningside friends and enjoyed studying the word of God in church and at home. Tessie loved her family immensely. Her truest joy was the well-being of her family and bringing the family together. Tessie is survived by the love of her life, her husband Harold, of 62 years. She is also survived by all of her children, Cheryl Mathis Reynolds and her husband, Sam, Susan Vinson Owens, and Edward Ira Vinson and his wife, Jeannie; grandchildren, Samantha Hunt Reynolds, Hunter Reynolds Smith and her husband, Roy, Mary Margaret Louise Reynolds, Kadi Owens Traxler and her husband, Jason, Kelly Marie Owens, Kimberly Vinson Herick and her husband Andrew, David Vinson and his wife, Katie; and great grandchildren, Morgan Traxler, Ford Traxler, and Hazel Vinson. She was preceded in death by her mother in-law, Margaret Ezell Mathis. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 11th, 10:00AM until 10:45AM at Dunbar Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the Chapel at 11:00AM. Entombment will be held in the Heritage Mausoleum at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O.
