Spartanburg - Thomas Marion Howell (February 12, 1952 - November 1, 2021) was born in Tucson, Arizona, although he spent much of his childhood in Germany. He attended the University of Virginia for his undergraduate work before earning his Master of Business Administration from the University of Georgia. He enjoyed a career in the textile industry eventually forming his own company Summit Textiles. He died on All Saints’ Day in 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. Tom honored God by loving all of His creatures. He served on the board of the Spartanburg Humane Society in the 80s and 90s, and helped care for many “critters,” big and small, that his children brought home. An academic at heart, he enjoyed reading books and studying history. Among his particular heroes were Sir Winston Churchill, Thomas Jefferson, and Alexander the Great, although he knew at least one interesting fact about almost any historical figure you could name. Tom will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his storytelling, and most of all, how proud he was of his daughters. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Howell and Anna Barbara Howell, and survived by his daughters, Anna Katherine Howell and Irene Claire McNulty Howell, his brother James Andreas Howell, and his niece, Jessica Ann Howell. A Memorial service will be held at 3:00PM on Wednesday, November 10th, 2021 at The Greenlawn Heritage Chapel officiated by The Reverend J. Edward Morris. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303
