Thomas Louis McAbee

Thomas Louis McAbee, aged 87 of Greenville, SC, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024. 

Born in Spartanburg, SC on March 21, 1937, he was the son of the late Thomas Wales McAbee and Mary Anderson McAbee. 

Tom is survived by his daughter, Libby Cobb (Jack) of Spartanburg, SC and his son, Louis McAbee of Greenville, SC. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Max Cobb (Jamie) of Spartanburg, SC, Dylan Cobb (Feli) of Houston, TX, and Savannah Cobb of Baltimore, MD. He is also survived by his three sisters, Mary Clare McAbee of Columbia, SC, Peggy McMaster (Henry) of Columbia, SC, and Joanne Schweitzer (Ed) of Cincinnati, OH. He was predeceased by his wife, June Harper McAbee.

Tom graduated Summa Cum Laude, at the top of his class, from University of South Carolina in 1959. He went to work for S. D. Leidesdorf & Co. as a CPA. He quickly rose to partner and earned several trips around the world. His next employment opportunity was as CFO for Bi-Lo, Inc. His then joined Builder Marts of America as CFO, and finally, was CFO for TelCom.

Many would agree that Tom was a workaholic, but he was definitely a self-made man. Because of this, he was an excellent provider for his family. As a graduate of USC, he enjoyed taking his family to the Gamecock’s football games, where he had season tickets for over 40 years! He also loved fishing, especially at Kiawah Island, where he had a beach house. He was a gardener at heart and loved to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, and okra. Tom loved many things, but above all else, he loved his wife, June, more than life itself! He will be missed.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 10:00am at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 35 Shannon Drive, Greenville, SC 29615. Reception and celebration of life to follow.
