Thomas O. “Monk” Montgomery of Lyman, SC went home Sunday, May 26, 2024 at the age of 78. He was the beloved husband of Cathy Love Montgomery and son of the late Thomas Cecil and Thalia Burgess Montgomery.
After graduating from Roebuck High School, Tommy worked at White Bag Company. He then worked for, and retired from, Bob M. Johnson as a painting contractor. Tommy also worked part-time at Rose Crest Assisted Living. He was a member of Covenant Baptist Church.
Tommy was a Dorman High School fan, closely following their football and basketball teams. He also enjoyed coaching and playing softball for over 20 years.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Christy Bailey (Frankie); brother, Terry Montgomery (Lynn); sister, Sandra Marable; brother-in-law, Tim Love (Cathy); nieces, Lexie Hamrick (Kyle) and Whitney Richie (John); nephews, Shannon Smith (Jenni) and Mason Love (Christy); aunt, JoAnn Montgomery; grandchildren, Hannah Bailey, Mark Nadel, and Jarrid Bailey (Aimee). Tommy was known as Papa T to his great-grandchildren, Elliott Nadel and Jace Bailey, and Uncle Tommy to Abbie Hamrick, K.J. Hamrick, Harper Smith, Katlyn Smith (Justin Rivera), Anthony Rivera, Austin Moody (Mary), and Starr Moody. He also leaves behind his lifelong friend, Elton Strickland, and his brother from another mother, Michael Thompson. He was predeceased by his sister, Jimmie Bradley.
Visitation will be 2:00-2:45pm on Friday, May 31, 2024 at Covenant Baptist Church, 200 Evangel Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29301. Funeral services will follow at 3:00pm, conducted by Rev. Gary Hensley and Rev. John Cox. Burial will be in Wood Memorial Park, 863 Gap Creek Rd, Greer, SC 29651.

Tommy never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all.
