Fountain Inn, SC- Vincent John Young, Jr., 82, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023. Vincent was born on September 29, 1940 in Easton, PA to his parents, Vincent J. Young, Sr. and Martha T. Young. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Jeanne Young, and his only son, Vincent J. Young, III. He graduated from Broward County high school in Florida in 1959 before serving in the United States Air Force in 1960. In 1965, he started his life-long career as a computer engineer for IBM where he retired after a long tenure. Since retirement, he has spent his time enjoying his family and close friends and traveling and experiencing the world. If one phrase could sum up Vincent, it would be that he had a heart of gold. He was known throughout the community for his loving and nurturing nature towards his family and friends and adored spending quality time with them every chance he could. He loved playing games, especially Parcheesi and cards. Vincent loved to joke and laugh and tell the most wonderful stories. When taking pictures, you could always count that he would make the “bunny ears” behind you with his fingers. Vincent was just as smart as he was humorous. He was a talented, fun-spirited, soul who took on many passions. He was a computer genius and developer and an excellent mathematician. Throughout his community, he was known as a true “giver” and was always donating to the many special causes that touched him. Papa Vince was a beautiful person, inside and out. His smile and humor was so amazing that he would light up any room. He is survived by his granddaughter, Britney McIntire and his great grandchildren, Tegan McIntire and Aason Adams; a brother, Arthur Young; a nephew, Art Young, Jr.; and his loving significant other, Rosemary Bergeron of Spartanburg, SC and her loving family. His heart of this world may have failed, but his strong spirit and wonderful memories remain. He will be FOREVER missed and remembered as the sweet, kind, and loving man that touched so many. Until we meet again, Papa! A catholic mass will be held Friday, May 19th, 2:00PM at Jesus Our Risen Savior Catholic Church, 2575 Reidville Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301. The burial with military honors will follow at Clear Spring Baptist Church Cemetery, 301 Bethany Road, Simpsonville, SC 29681.
