W. Hisel Witt, 89, of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024. He was born in Garrard County, KY on February 11, 1935 to the late Cecil and Oneva Malear Witt.
After serving in the United States Army, Hisel joined the United States Navy Reserves and continued his dedicated service to his country for 28 years. He began his career with Sears, Roebuck and Co, starting out on the retail floor, and over the next 34 years worked his way up to Contract Sales for local builders. After retirement, he partnered with Keenan Garage Doors, managing sales, installs, and servicing for over 25 years.
A lover of adventure, Hisel’s happiest moments were spent traveling to some of his favorite fishing spots. Whether it was the beauty of Alaska, the shores of Outer Banks, NC, or the waters of Lake Greenwood, SC, he found peace and joy in nature.
Hisel touched countless lives, both near and far, with his laughter and his genuine love for everyone he encountered. He truly never met a stranger; every interaction left others feeling like lifelong friends. Hisel’s humor was as big as his heart. With a wit that filled every room and a jovial spirit that lifted all around him, Hisel had a wonderful ability to make people feel at ease and connected. His presence will be deeply missed by his family, who were his pride and joy, and by his cherished friends.
He is survived by his children, Rusty Witt (Paige) of Lyman and Dana Witt-evans of Mauldin; grandchildren, Calon Witt, Jillian Evans, and Baeden Evans; brother, James C. Witt (Sandie) of Richmond, KY; the love of his life, Jenny Wright of Boiling Springs; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Hisel was predeceased by his sister, Mildred Riddell, and her husband, Alan.
Visitation will be 11:00-11:45am on Friday, November 15, 2024 at J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. Memorial services will follow at 12:00pm, conducted by Rev. Tommy Sparks.
