Walter Hunter Watson, Jr., passed away in his home in Spartanburg on January 9, 2021. Hunter was born in Charleston on April 5, 1942 to the late Dr. Walter and Mary Norvell Watson. He spent his childhood primarily in Greenville and Charleston along with his four brothers and sister. He was a graduate of Charleston High School and Clemson University and served in the SC Army National Guard. Hunter married Shirley in 1968, and the couple recently celebrated their 52nd anniversary. Hunter had a successful career in textile management and sales, retiring from Wendell Fabrics Corporation. The couple also owned local fabric store, Custom Fabrics Ltd., for many years and were members of First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg. Hunter will be lovingly remembered by his wife and children, Elizabeth (Chuck) Feather and Andrew (April), and grandchildren Caroline, Scott, and Hunter. All of whom live in Spartanburg. He also leaves sister, Molly (Steven) Hope of Charleston and bother Michael (Julie) Watson of Hilton Head; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. He was predeceased by brothers, Thomas, Lewis, and Andrew. At his request, no service will be held, and Hunter will be laid to rest privately with arrangements being handled by Dunbar Funeral Home.
